CHECK THE SOURCE!
Make sure the source of the information if trustable. Have a look at our list of trustable sources if you need some extra help.
DOES IT HAVE PEER REVIEW?
Peer review is a great way to identify accurate information.
INVESTIGATE THE AUTHOR
Who are they? What is their area of expertise? Do they know what they are talking about?
LOOK AT THE REFERENCES
Are there any references to previous studies or works? Are they correctly identified?
READ BETWEEN THE LINES
What is that piece of information is trying to tell you? Is it written in a neutral way presenting all the points and analysing them fairly? Or is it trying to make you feel angry, sad, happy or fearful?
LOOK FOR CONFIRMATION
You should always try to look for other sources that confirm the information you have just read, heard or watched. Be aware of your bias will you are doing this: more often than not we are led to look for information that confirms our bias.

Here is a list of some sources that are very likely to present you accurate, verified information. Still, you should always pay attention to every part of the article.
